Cervical Screening (Smear tests)

Two women die every day from cervical cancer, yet it is one of the most preventable cancers. Around 2,700 women in England are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year and it is the second most common cancer amongst women under 35.

On 14th February 2022, the NHS launched a national cervical screening campaign. The Help Us To Help You campaign will encourage eligible patients (people with a cervix aged 25-64) to respond to their invitation letter, and to book an appointment with their GP practice even if they missed their last screening. The campaign will raise awareness of the risks of cervical cancer and highlight the preventative benefits of screening with a view to increasing the number of people attending for their smear test.

Family Planning

Please book an appointment with Yvette, our Minor Illness Nurse, to discuss starting contraception such as the Pill and the Depo injection. This can then be reviewed by our Practice Nurse Joanne.

Coil and Implant appointments are available at Marie Stopes in Wakefield. They can be contacted 0345 300 2350. Alternatively you can visit a Spectrum clinic. They can be contacted on 0800 1214860.

Children’s Vaccinations

Joanne and Jenny, our Practice Nurses, are both fully qualified in childhood vaccinations. There are 5 total rounds, starting when your child is 8 weeks old and ending when they are 3 years and 4 months (their pre-school boosters). If your child is new to the country and has never been registered at a GP Practice before, it would be very helpful if you could provide us with a copy of their vaccination history. This way, the nurse will know what your child needs and we will be able to arrange further appointments if needed.

Maternity Care

Our Midwives hold Ante-natal Clinics by appointment on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
