Antimicrobial awareness is a global campaign that is published annually to improve awareness and understanding of antibiotic resistance. Resistance occurs when patients no longer respond to medicines. This means antibiotics become ineffective and infections become increasingly difficult or impossible to treat.
The ‘Keep Antibiotics Working’ campaign supports the government’s continued efforts to reduce inappropriate prescriptions for antibiotics. The campaign warns people that taking antibiotics when they are not needed puts them at risk of a more severe or longer infection, and urges people to take their doctor’s advice on antibiotics. The antimicrobial stewardship initiative aims to improve the prescribing of our clinician’s. Dr Ansar Hayat is our named guardian, who will promote and monitor the reduction in antibiotic prescribing to help control resistance in our patients.
